This calculator determines the Azithromycin dose for treating bacterial infections, using a concentration of Azithromycin 100 mg/5 mL (20 mg/mL), based on the patient’s weight and dosage regimen:
Dose in mg and Volume in mL (based on Azithromycin component):
Option 1: Day 1: 10 mg/kg, Days 2-5: 5 mg/kg (pediatric ≥ 6 months)
Option 2: 12 mg/kg/day for 5 days (pediatric ≥ 2 years)
Volume Calculation:
Volume (mL) = Azithromycin Dose (mg) ÷ 20 mg/mL
Where:
For adults, use 500 mg po for one dose on Day 1, then 250 mg po once daily on Days 2-5. Administer for 5 days, or as directed. ⚠️ Always consult a healthcare provider.
Enter the patient’s weight, select the dosage regimen (Day 1: 10 mg/kg & Day 2-5: 5 mg/kg, or 12 mg/kg/day for 5 days). The calculator provides the dose in mL and mg per dose for pediatric patients (≥ 6 months or ≥ 2 years) or adults.
Example: Weight 15 kg, Day 1: 10 mg/kg & Day 2-5: 5 mg/kg:
Pediatric ≥ 6 months: Day 1: 7.5 mL (150 mg) po for one dose then Day 2 to 5: 3.8 mL (75 mg) po once daily Adult Dose: Day 1: 500 mg po for one dose then Days 2 to 5: 250 mg po once daily Calculations must be re-checked and should not be used alone...
Consult a healthcare provider before administering.
Azithromycin treats bacterial infections, including respiratory infections, skin infections, and ear infections.
Pediatric: Once daily for 5 days (either 10 mg/kg on Day 1 and 5 mg/kg on Days 2-5, or 12 mg/kg/day). Adults: Once daily, 500 mg on Day 1, then 250 mg on Days 2-5.
Consult a doctor, as dosing for infants under 6 months may differ or require caution.
This calculator accepts only kilograms, but you can convert pounds to kilograms (1 lb = 0.4536 kg) before entering the weight.
Day 1: 500 mg po for one dose, then Days 2-5: 250 mg po once daily.
