This calculator determines the Dicyclomine dose for treating irritable bowel syndrome or colic, using a concentration of Dicyclomine 10 mg/5 mL (2 mg/mL), based on the patient’s age group:
Dose in mL and mg (based on Dicyclomine component):
Infants (6 Months – 2 Years): 2.5 to 5 mL (5 to 10 mg) po TID to QID prn, 15 minutes before feeding
Children (2 – 12 Years): 5 mL (10 mg) po TID to QID prn
Adults: Initial dose is 5 to 10 mL (10 to 20 mg) po TID to QID prn, discontinue if efficacy not achieved within 2 weeks
Volume Calculation:
Dose is fixed per age group, not weight-based.
Where:
Administer as needed (prn) for symptoms, 15 minutes before feeding for infants. ⚠️ Always consult a healthcare provider.
Select the patient’s age group. The calculator provides the dose in mL and mg for the corresponding age group.
Example: Infants (6 Months – 2 Years):
Dosage: 2.5 to 5 mL (5 to 10 mg) po TID to QID prn, 15 minutes before feeding Calculations must be re-checked and should not be used alone...
Consult a healthcare provider before administering.
Dicyclomine (Bentyl; BentyloL) treats irritable bowel syndrome, colic, and other gastrointestinal conditions.
Three to four times daily (TID to QID) as needed (prn): 2.5–5 mL (5–10 mg) for infants (6 months–2 years, 15 minutes before feeding), 5 mL (10 mg) for children (2–12 years), and 5–10 mL (10–20 mg) for adults (discontinue if no efficacy within 2 weeks).
Consult a doctor, as Dicyclomine is not typically recommended for infants under 6 months without medical supervision.
Initial dose is 5 to 10 mL (10 to 20 mg) po TID to QID prn, discontinue if efficacy not achieved within 2 weeks.
